Based in Sheffield, England, illustrator and art director Jonny Wan works on advertising and packaging projects for a wide range of clients, including Apple, Nike, Aperol, and American Express. A recent project he completed for Kiehl’s, celebrating the Lunar New Year, got us feeling very celebratory, indeed!

Typical of Wan’s work, the illustrations are full of bold, graphic shapes and rich with detail.
The Kiehl’s campaign story focuses on Lucky, a pig who has settled in New York City but is now making his way home to Shanghai to celebrate the Year of the Pig with his family.
Wan created key visuals; then illustrations and other patterns Wan created were used on a range of Kiehl’s product packaging and advertising, as well as on tote bags, gift boxes, wrapping paper, and charming social media animations that document Lucky’s journey.

Still product shots which were created for marketing and sent out to various online outlets and bloggers to create some extra buzz for the launch.
The design and illustration collateral were even transformed into an interactive VR game, culminating in a launch ceremony at Singapore’s Changi Airport. An outpost was built specifically for the campaign, where the base illustration was transformed into a live set that shoppers could interact with.
