Grab the attention of new listeners with an eye-catching design for your podcast cover art. Learn how to create unique artwork for your digital platforms using colors, images, graphics, and brushes in Adobe Photoshop on the iPad.

Before you start, save the practice file and open it in the Your Work tab in Photoshop on your iPad. Then add our library of design assets.

Step 1: Start with an image.

To add a portrait, tap the image icon, Libraries > Discover - Collage Portrait, and choose the portrait you’d like to feature. Use the handles to resize or rotate the image, then tap Done to place it.

Step 2: Hide the background.

Tap and hold the Lasso tool to select the Select Subject option. Once the portrait is selected, tap the Mask icon from the bottom menu to hide the background.

Step 3: Embellish your portrait.

Select shapes and images to add to your composition. We chose images that have similar accent colors and pops of contrast. For this project, we went with elements that have a desert theme.

Step 4: Create your composition.

Scale and rotate the library assets as you add them. Or tap an existing layer and use the Transform tool options. Tap and drag layers up and down to move objects in front of or behind others. Then add a new layer.

Step 5: Grab a brush.

With the new layer selected, tap the Brush tool and select a color. To choose a different brush, tap the Brush tool again to see more options. Then draw a message in decorative script. Reorder the layer to be behind design composition but above the background color.

Step 6: Repeat the message.

To resize the script, tap the Transform tool, drag a corner handle, and tap Done. Tap the Layer actions icon on the right, choose Duplicate layer, and use the Selection tool to drag the new layer down. Repeat these steps to fill the background.

Complete the arrangement.

Finish your design by adding other accents. Add more brushstrokes using other colors from the main image and different brush sizes and techniques, such as dots.

Export for digital platforms.

Use your design for your podcast cover art or share it across social media channels. To do this, tap the Share icon at the top, choose Publish and export, select the format, then tap Export to choose the destination.
