Create an ’80s-style photo collage.
Like mullet haircuts and leg warmers, this look brings back memories. Now you can replicate it, for a holiday card that adds a giggle to your good wishes.
Try some of these techniques.
Add your photo.
Place a photo in the layout and press Enter. Then, click inside it with the Object Selection tool.
Frame your subject.
Now that your subject is selected, add a Layer Mask to hide its background. Then hold Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows) and click on the layer to create a Clipping Mask that contains the image within the oval frame.
Give it an ’80s throwback.
Add a second photo the same way, and click the thumbnail of its Layer Mask. Paint its edge black with a soft brush to give it that retro feathered look.
Add a festive hue.
In the Layers panel, add an Adjustment Layer and select Gradient Map.
Recolor your portrait.
In the Properties panel, double-click the gradient thumbnail to open the Gradient Editor. Choose from easy presets — or, customize by double-clicking a gradient stop to open the Color Picker. Finally, create a Clipping Mask to apply the gradient to the oval frame.
