ABOUT THE PROJECT
Sara Laninga creates irresistible packaging for startups. Her clever boxes bring makeup, fragrance, and snack brands to life with retro lettering, vintage textures, and kooky illustrations. “It’s easier to create something if you start with a template,” Sara says. So she created an exclusive packaging template for you to download. You can add your own logo and customize the design to fit your brand. And don’t worry about finding a print shop. This box is designed to print at home — all you need is some double-sided tape.
STEP 1 / 4
Edit the text.
Select the Type tool and double-click any text to edit it. Press Escape to commit to changes. In the Properties panel, you can select Character to experiment with fonts, styles, and colors.
STEP 2 / 4
Add your logo.
Select the Move tool and make sure to choose Auto-Select in the Options panel. Click on the Flora Blume logo to highlight it in the Layers panel, then double-click on the Smart Object thumbnail to open it. Now you can hide the placeholder logo and add your own. Save the file, and when you return to the packaging you’ll see your own branding on the box.
STEP 3 / 4
Choose your colors.
Click on the orange areas of the pack to highlight the corresponding Fill layer in the Layers panel. If you want to choose a new hue that suits your brand, just double-click the color thumbnail in the Layer to open the Color Picker.
STEP 4 / 4
Print!
To print your box, open the Layers panel and follow the instructions. Click the eye icon next to “Background — Turn OFF for Print” to hide the clouds layer group (because ink is expensive). This will reveal the dieline to show you where to cut. You can print your box on any home printer. I recommend using a sturdy off-white cardstock paper with subtle flecks. Stick it together with acid-free double-sided tape.
