Designer Nick Barclay is a renegade in the world of poster design. He is prolific and delightfully outspoken, the physical embodiment of his boldface posters that demand attention. “The perfect poster is simple, bold, and visually striking,” he says. “Less is more.” Between surfing on Australia’s Bondi Beach and his busy design practice, Nick created this original poster for Adobe, inspired by a world’s fair-style event. But you can download and customize them for anything. “Mess around with them,” Nick insists. “Have fun… because if it’s not fun, it’s not worth it.”
Follow the steps to learn how to customize the poster.
STEP 1/3
Choose your rosettes.
Open the Layers panel (Window > Layers) and select the folder named "Rosettes," then select the size of your colorful circles by toggling the eye icon next to the layer groups.
STEP 2/3
Change the colors.
Select your chosen rosette, then adjust the Hue/Saturation slider (Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation) to change the colors. As Nick might say: “Go nuts.”
STEP 3/3
Edit the words.
Open the Layer folder named Type and choose from five different type options by toggling the eye icon. Next, open the Headline folder and edit the copy using the Type Tool. You can also edit Nick’s “dinkets” in the Subheads folders. Done!
